The era of
Web 2.0 is
upon us and teachers need to learn and master new tools and new techniques to
be able to respond to these demands.
This is a hands on course introducing TEFL teachers without any previous ICT
training or experience to the principles and techniques of teaching and
learning English as a Foreign Language using computers and the world wide web.
Course Content
The
course covers the following
two main areas:

activities - finding, downloading , creating |

Evaluation of web

Blogging - personal blogs and class/school blogs

Wikis for your students

Creating your own activities using free tools on the web

Introduction to virtual classrooms and online teaching

Using networking sites like Facebook, Wikis & Nings for learning activities |

Interactive Whiteboards |
Course Structure & Mode of Delivery
The course comprises 20
hours of seminar input, workshops, and individual practice on materials
presented during sessions.
The course is offered
face-to-face but there is also an online option.
To
participate in the online option, you will need a fast connection, a headset
and a webcam. To find out if the online options is a suitable one for you, you
can take
this online quiz which only takes a few minutes to complete and will give
you a very good idea about how comfortable you are going to be in an online
class environment.

Participation and Assessment
Course Participants are expected to know how to use basic Word Processing
applications as well as how to use an email client. Ideally,
participants should have their own laptops for attendance on this course - if
a laptop is not available, they should notify the centre.
This is not a course in basic PC skills although participants are not expected
to be experts.
Assessment is through a project involving the design and teaching of a lesson
plan which includes appropriate Web 2.0 tools.
