Dear Readers,
November, for all language centres is usually a month of exam
preoccupation. So it is with us. As I pen these lines, the Cambridge
external assessor for the DELTA course is on her way into Athens from
the airport to assess our DELTA candidates in teaching their final
lesson. In the first week of December, we will be holding our DELTA
written examinations here. Then, within a week or two of that, we will
be receiving our CELTA external assessor to assess our CELTA trainees
teaching our students here at CELT.
Books to go!
I
would also like to repeat the invitation to come in and pick up a free
novel! Now, don't be shy! All those books are waiting for eager
readers! We encourage you to pick up one, two, or more books,
especially if you are preparing for any language examinations such as
for the ASEP. There is really no better way for you to develop your
vocabulary!
Do check out our
Christmas party and Open Day invitation and join in!
I wish you all a
Happy Christmas Season!

Name Days - Chronia Polla to all my Maria's & Andrews ! Many Happy Returns!
|
I have so many current and past trainees called Maria, or Mary or Marie or, like
myself, Marisa, I thought it was an important enough name day in Greece to
celebrate and send to all my warmest wishes for this very important day . So
Chronia Polla to all my students called Maria, Marie, Mary, Mariliz and even
Marika, even if they are coming so late!
Chronia Polla to all those named Andreas, celebrating their name days on the
30th.
To those of you not from Greece, a little bit of cultural information. Birthdays
are important in this country (probably more so now than in the past) but a
person's name day, i.e. the day celebrating the saint after whom one was named,
has traditionally always been more important. It is this day that all friends
remember and send one their wishes. So, find out your Greek friends' name days
if you want to show them your warm feelings for them.

Teaching Practice Classes at CELT
|
Our call for
adults to the readers of this e-zine as well as the stroke of luck
of getting Eleftherotypia newspaper to print out our
press release
to that end have finally paid off! Thanks to all those trainees
and friends who passed on the good word and CELT is now very
pleased to have good numbers in classes dedicated to CELTA, CTEFL
and DELTA teaching practice.
Teaching Practice is an integral part of our courses and these
classes have made a real difference to our trainee teachers - and
the adults being taught as well! The feedback from the students is
both warm and enthusiastic and warms the shaky knees of
nervous trainees. |
The comments which we hear repeatedly goes something like
this: "We feel we are learning so much here! Unlike the lessons we used to have
- conducted in Greek, full of rules and explanations, these young teachers have
managed to motivate us and to make us look forward to our English class! Wow!
And they are only now learning? Imagine what they will be able to do in one or
two years!"
If you yourself are thinking of upgrading your certification to a CELTA or a
DELTA, or just take a short refresher course on Teaching English to Adult, do
bear in mind that you will be able to teach classes at CELT and not have to
borrow from colleagues or go to another school.

3. CELTA NEWS

This term we have
been running a part-time
CELTA course attended by teachers already living and
working in Athens (or about to do so). The part-time format feels
very satisfactory and works extremely well for the working
teacher. We are very lucky to have a new tutor working with us, Mr
Robin WIleman, a very experienced CELTA trainer based in the UK
who has massive experience of running CELTA courses at
International House and all over the world. To some of you he may
be a familiar name as he is co-author of level 4 (intermediate) of
the very popular adult series "Language
to Go" published by Longman - Pearson.
